Typically the annual “Olympics of Dance” was inexistent for the Philippines and many other countries as Hip Hop International World Championships went on and pushed thru online for its main event in 2021.
The prestigious competition was held in an unorthodox manner, which enabled many countries to still participate. Unfortunately for the Philippines, the surge of pandemic cases disabled any sort of prior event to even qualify any team to represent the nation, which might’ve been the same reason for other nations.
Basing off of the incomplete list of 2019 attendees seen above, the following are the countries which missed out:
- Australia
- Belgium
- Costa Rica
- Ecuador
- Fiji
- France
- Greece
- Indonesia
- Ireland
- Israel
- Italy
- Kenya
- Netherlands
- Papua New Guinea
- Paraguay
- Peru
- Philippines
- Romania
- South Africa
- Sierra Leone
- Switzerland
- Taiwan
- Tonga
- Trinidad & Tobago
- United Kingdom
That’s a lot of countries who passed for HHI 2021. Participant teams have also dwindled down in numbers to 170 (2021) from in 258 (2019) – almost a decrease of 100 participating teams. And this is on an incomplete list too.
In any case, a big congratulations to the new HHI 2021 champs! Hopefully as things get better for the world, more countries are enabled to travel again into the World Championships of 2022, making the event a lot more competitive and fun. Excited to be there again! See you in 2022!
